It was an early, very warm morning in July, and it had rained during the night. The bare granite steamed, moss and crevices were drenched with moisture, and all the colours had deepened. TOVE JANSSON

The Bloody Chamber
"He loved to surprise me in my abstracted solitude at the piano and softly creep up behind me with a bouquet of hothouse flowers or his box of marrons glaces."
I was influenced by the work of Odilon Redon, the french symbolist painter and pastellist (1848-1916) whose flambuoyant style seemed appropriate for illustrating the stories of Angela Carter.
I used black and white for the characters to try and convey a sense of pure and unpure, good and bad.
