My Hereford inspired prints are going to be viewed through the eyes of this slightly nostalgic character, just off the train. |
It was an early, very warm morning in July, and it had rained during the night. The bare granite steamed, moss and crevices were drenched with moisture, and all the colours had deepened. TOVE JANSSON

A NEW OUTLOOK

REFLECTION
I composed the prints below with letter press printing in mind. I feel that this limited and dictated my composition perhaps over simplifying to its detriment. I was aware of leaving space for letters or covering up parts of the image.
For my Final Major Projects my general subject matter is Hereford, the prints below allude to this but they are a little random as they were derived from my mono prints.
I intend to firm up on my subject matter and be selective in what I take forward from these prints. Although I like the letter press I am not going to use it to the same degree as the constraints are too great. I like the effect of printing on to newsprint as it has a softness and mottled appearance. I will continue to use mono print and I am going to try and include some etching and more of my printed textures in future compositions.

mono printing
During the Easter break I made lots of small Hereford inspired prints, they are quite pale so don't reproduce that well.
